Business Success Tips : Meet Ricky Powell

Ricky Powell
Happiness Coach

Our normal body temperature is 98.6 percent. Can we be happy 98.6 percent of the time?

Meet my new friend, Ricky Powell. He says yes, we can! Ricky is a Happiness Coach and he’s on a mission.

After a lifetime in the entertainment industry, including being a well known child actor and 25 years working at America’s NBC channel, Ricky decided to move on and live his other passion – helping people learn how happiness changes our lives! Literally!

Ricky works with people, helping them experience lifelong happiness and exponential success on a daily basis.

He also works with businesses – large and small – helping them improve their profitability and success by creating an environment where their employees feel supported, productive and happy working in the business. He cites the American business, Zappos – an online fashion retailer as a fabulous example of the benefits of creating a ‘happy organisation’. We talk about Zappos as its mission is to ‘deliver happiness’ to its customers.

Ricky is the Founder of LifelongHappiness.com, the author of the book, Happiness Rocks… and much more.

Listen in to our conversation. I was riveted as this is a topic I am absolutely passionate about too.

While you may start out as a cynic over the importance of happiness in our lives, I hope, by the end of our conversation, you will be a convert to this wonderful concept that is sweeping the world. Enjoy!

Business Success Tips : Meet Bill Gluth

Bill Gluth
Business Strategy Consultant and Evernote Business Certified Consultant

Are you feeling a bit overwhelmed? So much to do and not enough hours in the day or enough people available to assist?

You are not alone. Life seems to be a bit manic for everyone these days.

The year is racing by and ‘stuff’ hits us at all hours of the day (and night) – work, family, ideas, inspirations, lists of ‘must dos’ and ‘don’t forgets’… know the feeling? I certainly do.

Meet my friend, Bill Gluth. He says: “Great ideas and brilliant strategies only work when implemented!” Too true! But we need systems in place to make the implementation easier.

Bill’s a Business Strategy Consultant. Recently he also became an Evernote Business Certified Consultant.

Have you heard of Evernote? It is the latest and greatest in helping people to organise their lives – personal and business. It’s available as a free download on computer and synchronised app for your phone.

Evernote (as its marketing says) “is the place where we write free from distraction, collect information, find what we need, and present our ideas to the world”.

I have to confess, I’m a novice user of Evernote. But already it’s making my life easier, and with Bill’s instructions on how I can make it work for me in life and business, I can’t wait to get started on learning more.

We are also looking to integrate Evernote into our company wide processes and systems to make our business lives even more streamlined across the team. You can do that too.

So, have a listen to this week’s Business Success Tips Interview with Bill where he explains how to use and get the most out of Evernote. He mostly focuses on the free version of the tool, so this conversation is relevant for everyone.

Technology is quite literally at our fingertips, and there’s so much choice on the market. Evernote seems like a winner to me. I was thrilled that Bill was so willing to share his expert knowledge on how to get the most of out it. Enjoy!

Successful Entrepreneurs’ Stories : Meet Theresa Gattung

Theresa Gattung CNZM
MEGA Entrepreneur, Investor, Philanthropist…. and…

Meet my friend, Theresa Gattung.  She’s awesome and a mega achiever in business and life!!

At age 37, she became CEO of New Zealand’s largest publicly listed company, Telecom NZ (now Spark), and led Telecom, its people, and the telco industry through a time of massive change (1999 to 2007).

After leaving Telecom, Theresa took time out and travelled the world to think about what came next. After-all, what does one do at age 45 after having run such a big business??

Since then, Theresa has become chair of some major Australasian public companies, she’s an investor in start-ups, an active philanthropist, an entrepreneur… and more!

In 2013, along with two others, Theresa founded My Food Bag in New Zealand.

My Food Bag was born out of the idea that healthy and delicious food can also be convenient and exciting.  The goal is to bring inspiring, nutritionally-balanced tasty recipes and the best seasonal produce together, delivering it to the customer’s door.

In less than two years of trading the business has turned over $50M, was profitable after nine months, has 15,000 customers, and now employs over 60 staff.  How many start-ups have achieved such rapid growth?!  My Food Bag is growing massively; it also recently launched in Australia, and Asia might be next.

Here’s a recent NZ Herald newspaper article on Theresa and her achievements.  Have a read to learn more.

Plus, listen to this week’s Successful Entrepreneurs’ Stories interview I did with Theresa. She talks about her corporate career, entrepreneurship journey and much more. You will be inspired as you travel your own entrepreneurship path.

Oh, and Theresa was recently awarded the CNZM – Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit. This award is well deserved. Congratulations, Theresa.

Business Success Tips : Meet Scott Keyser

Scott Keyser
Communications and Bid Winning Expert

I believe that great written communications – be it via advertising, books/brochures, blogs, proposals, website communications… – is the secret to winning the hearts and minds of our potential and actual customers.  Would you agree?

Meet my friend, Scott Keyser.  He is a communications expert.  He teaches people around the world to write better… regardless of what type of writing they do.

He is also a bid winning expert.  That means he works with businesses to help them write and win major tenders/RFPs.  Scott’s success rate at present is 86 percent; very impressive, don’t you think?!

Here is a blog that Scott recently wrote for LinkedInPulse.  I was totally moved by this piece of writing.  I hope you are too.  I’d love to write like this.  Scott says that we can all write well, regardless of our level of training or education, as like anything, it is a learned skill.  Whew, what a relief.  There is hope for me yet!

In my interview with Scott, I learnt so much about how to be a better communicator in writing.  I can’t wait to spend some time with him learning more about this craft of writing given how much of it I am currently doing.  Bring it on!! 🙂

Scott has published the book: Winner Takes All.  It is a fantastic resource for any business needing guidance on how to write tender/bid documents that result in winning new work…  Here’s the Amazon link if you’d like to buy the book.  I highly recommend it.

He has another book due out later this year which will be another great and helpful resource.  We talk about that book in the interview, so I will let you know when it is available to purchase.

I am certain you will learn a lot about how to be a great writer by listening to this week’s Business Success Tips Interview with Scott.  Enjoy!

Business Success Tips : Meet Stephanie Kleyman

Stephanie Kleyman
Director, Kleyman & Co

Ignorantia legis neminem excusat – ignorance of the law excuses no-one!

Yet in business, many business owners/entrepreneurs are needlessly and dangerously exposing themselves to the full force of the law, often due to ignorance.

Meet my friend, Stephanie Kleyman. She is a director of Kleyman and Co, leading London business solicitors.

In this interview with Stephanie, she talks about all the risks many entrepreneurs often unwittingly take in business – regardless of the country they operate in.

For instance, if you are in business with another person, is your business correctly legally structured so that if you were to go your separate ways, it is clear what happens next, and who owns what? This is relevant regardless of whether you are structured as a partnership or a legal entity.

Do you have staff or contractors? Do you have proper employment or contractor agreements in place with them? The consequences can be extremely expensive if you get your employment arrangements wrong.

Do you have a staff manual? Are your staff clear on what they can and can’t do while within your employment – both in and outside the office?

With the proliferation of social media, does your business have a social media policy? Is a social media policy important for a small business? Definitely – listen in to hear why!!

So please check out this highly important interview with Stephanie and think about whether you are exposing yourself, and the success and longevity of your business. If you are, get the issues sorted now; the cost of not has the potential to wreck your business – or at the very least, cost you a small fortune!

I promise you, this interview is relevant to all business owners and entrepreneurs around the world.

Successful Entrepreneurs’ Stories : Meet Ed McLaughlin

Ed McLaughlin
Seriously Successful Entrepreneur

Meet my friend Ed McLaughlin. Ed is a New Yorker, and he knows how to be successful in business!! Like everyone, he has had his fair share of business challenges, but he nailed them and man, did he reap the benefits!

Ed and his team built up a highly successful business in the real estate outsourcing industry. To keep ahead of his competitors, Ed scaled the business quickly, and then sold it in 2005, making himself and others extremely wealthy (the sale turned all of his senior business partners into multi-millionaires!!).

After the sale, Ed stayed on as President and CEO of Johnson Controls, the company that bought out his business.

While on his entrepreneurial journey, in 2001, Ed was recognised by Ernst & Young (EY) as an Entrepreneur of the Year – this is a highly prestigious worldwide competition that EY runs every year. As well, his company became an Inc 500 company. So as you can see, Ed is a very successful entrepreneur!

Since 2008 Ed has been an angel investor and business adviser, so he knows plenty about what causes businesses to succeed… or not. We discussed this during our meeting, so listen in to what he has to say.

In mid 2015 Ed’s first book will be published: The Purpose is Profit: The Truth About Starting and Building Your Own Business. Ed uses the principles set out in his book to filter the angel investing he does, so the book will be an excellent resource for entrepreneurs.

The Purpose is Profit will be available on Amazon from mid 2015. If you would like to receive Ed’s “Pre-Release Snapshot of The Purpose is Profit”, which includes “An Entrepreneur’s Motivation” and “The Startup Roadmap”, go to Ed’s website: www.thepurposeisprofit.com and download your FREE eBook.  You will then be notified when his book “The Purpose is Profit: The Truth About Starting and Building Your Own Business” is released later in the year.

I hope you enjoy listening to Ed’s fascinating entrepreneurial journey. I promise you, this interview is ‘chocka block’ with business success tips.

Inspirational Success Stories : Meet George

George
101 years (Feb 2015) and a wonderful man

I hope you enjoyed my earlier blog about George, a relative of mine who turned 101 years on 12 February 2015.  Here’s the link to the blog if you missed it.

George is a delight. Life has not been easy for him – it isn’t for anyone.  He has certainly had his fair share of challenges, yet to listen to him speak and hearing his stories, you would never guess it.

At 101 years, George remains a vital, interested and interesting gentleman.  I adore talking to him, and just love it when, on a whim, he telephones me for a chat.  We can spend hours talking about life, family, friends and politics – a topic he has always loved, and continues to have strong opinions on.

At his stage in life, many of George’s loved ones and friends have long since departed.  But as George so loves to engage with people, he tries really hard to keep up with the ‘young of today’.  For instance, while he has never owned a computer, he is really interested in how email and the internet works, albeit it is anathema to him.

I hope you enjoy listening to the interview I did with to George, and hearing a little of his life story.

I plan to be at least 101 years too, and I am going to be vibrant, fit, healthy and more . 🙂  What about you?  How is your life going to be when you hit your ‘advanced years?’  I’d love to know.
