Business Success Tips : Meet Kevin Roberts

Kevin Roberts (CNZM)
Global Executive Chairman of Saatchi & Saatchi

Kevin Roberts knows branding, marketing, business (big and small) and much more.  He’s a formidably creative and visionary thinker.  He’s a man to listen to!

Click here to read of his career history.  It’s awe inspiring!  I was thrilled and privileged to have had the opportunity to interview him recently.

Our conversation was very wide ranging.  Here are some topic highlights.

Business must be either big (and I mean seriously big) or small (and that means really small – niche) to be successful.  Anything in between will be dead and buried in a few years.  What’s the vision for your business?

Why will 75 percent of the companies listed on the Standard and Poors 500 (a USA stock market index) will be out of business in 12 years time?

Brands are the commodities of today; the ‘new normal’ – that’s code for ordinary!  Is your business ordinary?

Make your business a Lovemark!  Irresistible in the eyes of your community, filled with Mystery, Sensuality and Intimacy.  Are you scared or excited at the thought of creating a Lovemark?  Check out why you MUST do this to thrive.

And then we talked about one of my favourite subjects: Personal Branding.  Kevin and his Saatchi teams around the world have branded politicians, celebrities, business people, sports stars and more.  He’ll explain why YOU must be branded too.  Business people must be personalities as we are drawn to personalities.  Personalities can become Lovemarks too.

In Kevin’s opinion, opportunities for success have never been so great for small businesses. Why?

This is a MUST listen to interview. I took loads of notes; I hope you do too. Enjoy!

Successful Entrepreneurs’ Stories : Meet Martin Worner

Martin Worner
The City Secret

Successful entrepreneurship should be about success in business and life, don’t you think? That’s certainly what I help my clients achieve.

Meet Martin Worner. He’s achieved both. Until 1997, he was a City of London man, working for Morgan Stanley in various technology roles. Like many, he worked enormous hours, travelled a lot, and had a life that was out of balance. So one day he said “enough” and left, returning to Yorkshire in the UK, his childhood home.

In 2000 Martin established The City Secret, a technology business that provides innovative and bespoke software solutions to top tier banks and investment houses.

Martin managed through the usual twists and turns of a new business…. until the global financial crisis hit the world in 2007. Remember that? It’s seems a long time ago now, but you will recall its impact at the time, was HUGE and in many respects still is as countries and businesses continue to rebuild.

Martin’s business suffered during the crisis. Work in progress got cancelled. New work dried up. Clients disappeared. To save his company, Martin had to make around half his staff redundant – something that’s not easy or comfortable for anyone in business.

However, the business not only survived, it has thrived, and is on an aggressive growth path over the next few years.

This week’s interview provides a wonderful insight into how Martin was able to combine his desire for a different lifestyle with his skills and experience, and create a magnificently successful business in a very narrow and competitive niche. I hope you are inspired by Martin’s entrepreneurship journey. Enjoy!

Business Success Tips : Meet Pete Evans

Pete Evans
‘Go-Giver’ and Sales Solutions Expert

So, are you a Go-Giver?

Go-Giving is a way of life, a way of doing business and a way of successfully networking to grow your business.

It was developed by John David Mann and Bob Burg via their novel, The Go-Giver – a story about an ambitious young man. Bob is also the author of many other books including: Endless Referrals, Network your Way to Endless Romance, Winning Without Intimidation… and many others.

Go-Giving and its 5 Laws of Stratospheric Success will support you to achieve success in business (and life) in ways you could never imagine.

There will certainly be no more networking events where you leave a bunch of business cards of the people you meet and wonder what to do with them. With Go-Giving, your networking will take on a new life and energy.

In our interview, Pete, who holds the master licence for Go-Giving in the UK, walks us through the philosophy and the 5 Laws of Stratospheric Success and how all that leads to endless referrals and much more.

By becoming a Go-Giver you will grow your business and seriously amplify the quality of your life.. Now, doesn’t that sound good? Enjoy!

Business Success Tips : Meet Tresté Loving

Tresté Loving
Celebrating Diversity in Business and Life

What does diversity mean for you?

Most of us think it’s about having respect and understanding for other people, including their culture, religion, ethnicity, age and sexual orientation. And yes, diversity is all that… and it’s a lot more.

I’m delighted to introduce you to a new friend of mine, Tresté Loving (don’t you just LOVE her name – I do!). Tresté has worked in the area of diversity for over 25 years, initially while in the US Navy and now as a consultant working with a large variety of businesses, large corporations and communities in America.

In our interview, Tresté talks candidly about the missed opportunities that businesses (big and small) experience by not embracing diversity in its widest definition.

And why are businesses missing out on growth and profitability opportunities? Very sadly it’s due to FEAR!

This interview is honest and enlightening. I truly hope you will listen to Tresté’s gentle wisdom and wealth of experience.

She talks about being a ‘glocal’ business, losing the fear of diversity, using diversity to grow your business…. and much more.

By embracing diversity in its widest definition, everyone wins: people, communities, businesses and hopefully, our planet. Now that sounds hopeful and encouraging to me. Enjoy!

Successful Entrepreneurs’ Stories : Meet Sophie Burnett

Sophie Burnett
Co-Founder and Managing Director of PA Business Support

It’s quite usual these days for people leave stable employment to become their own boss, or as it is commonly known, self employed.

Sadly, very few self employed people then make the transition to being business owners in the true sense of the words, where they employ others to do the work, so they can be a leader, working ‘on’ the business rather than directly ‘in’ it.

Meet my friend, Sophie Burnett. A few years ago, Sophie left a very stable and secure job in the recruitment industry to become her own boss. To save money, she even returned home to live with her mum and dad, and started the business in her bedroom at her parents’ home.

However, Sophie had a big vision for her business, and very quickly developed a plan enabling her to employ people, so she could spend more time strategically planning the future of the business and bringing her plan into reality.

As testimony to her business success, Sophie was the winner of the 2014 FSB Hertfordshire Business Award. Brilliant work, Sophie!

But that wasn’t enough. Six months ago, Sophie merged her business with another similar sized business in the same industry…. and as a result, the new business is going from strength to strength, supported by a very strong vision and business plan that Sophie and her new business partner, Sabina, have created. The future for this business is very, very bright.

I hope you are inspired by this week’s Successful Entrepreneurs’ Stories Interview. Sophie’s business journey and successes are a living example of what we can all achieve if we have clarity of vision for our businesses and lives. Enjoy.

Successful Entrepreneurs’ Stories : Meet Dallas Hardcastle

Dallas Hardcastle
Angel’s Advocate

You’ve heard of someone being a Devil’s Advocate, right?  That’s the person who points out all the reasons why you can’t do what you want… they point out all the issues and challenges you will face.  Yawn!!  That type of conversation is so limiting.

How about having someone who is your Angel’s Advocate in your life?  That’s someone who will support and encourage you to be and achieve everything you want in life.  They will challenge you to dream big in all dimensions of life: career, relationships, health, growth etc… and they will hold you to account to achieve.  Doesn’t that sound more appealing and exciting?

Meet my very dear friend, Dallas Hardcastle.  He’s an Angel’s Advocate – he’s actually more commonly known as a Master Growth Coach.  And man o’ man, does he get results with his clients.  Dallas’s energy, vitality and attitude towards life is awe inspiring.

He also calls himself the Unlearning Architect™ – doesn’t that sound intriguing?  Plus he also takes his clients on ‘Momentum Surges!’

I sooo hope I have captured your attention with this.  Please listen to this week’s interview and hear Dallas’ take on our ability to be, do and have everything we want in our lives.  Enjoy!

Business Success Tips : Meet Bob Littell

Bob Littell
Mr Netweaver

Are you ‘on the networking circuit’ to grow your business? And if you are, what do you loathe most about networking? Being sold to? Being spammed afterwards? Being put on email lists? Not knowing what to do with all the business cards you collect? Not knowing what to do after you meet an interesting person?

Some people love networking while others find it a struggle, yet they feel they have to do it to grow their businesses.

Meet my friend, Bob Littell – he’s Mr NetWeaver or Chief NetWeaver! He founded the concept of NetWeaving many years ago and it’s a much better and more successful alternative to networking. In fact, NetWeaving’s been referred to as the business side of ‘Pay It Forward’ – remember that wonderful and heart warming movie a few years ago?

NetWeaving takes the concept of networking to a whole new level and in the process everyone wins. The rewards of being a great NetWeaver are phenomenal. People have gotten to the top of the corporate ladder by being NetWeavers while others have grown their businesses massively.

This week’s interview will explain what NetWeaving is all about, and I promise you, it’s a very simple concept.

If you’d like to know where you are on the NetWeaving ladder, then you can also take a simple NetWeaving quiz here.  I took it and I’m delighted that I’m a ‘Natural NetWeaver’ – I’ve been doing it all my life without putting a name to it. What about you?

Enjoy my interview with Bob…. I hope you learn loads, and then get on helping others in business and life by paying it forward as a Netweaver.

Successful Entrepreneurs’ Stories : Meet Bice Awan

Bice Awan
Social Entrepreneur, CEO – Skylight Trust (up to Dec-14)

Social enterprises around the world are on the increase, which is a really good thing.

As defined by Social Enterprise UK, “businesses are defined as social enterprises when they trade to tackle social problems, improve communities, people’s life chances, or the environment.  They make their money from selling goods and services in the open market, but they reinvest their profits back into the business or the local community.”

Meet my good friend, Bice Awan.  Over 15 years ago she lead the establishment of Skylight, a New Zealand based social enterprise that supports people who are experiencing grief, trauma and stress.

Testimony to Skylight’s success, a leading Government official once told Bice that “If Skylight didn’t exist, New Zealand would be a sad place”.

Listen to my interview with Bice. Her commitment and energy for the cause is heart warming.

While having a strong community centred vision, Skylight also recognised the importance of financial independence so over the years has developed a number of revenue streams which as they continue to grow, will further support the increased financial sustainability of this wonderful organisation.

As well, the services offered are of such a high quality that Skylight is now an international enterprise, providing services to a number of countries around the world.

I’d be delighted if you shared this interview with anyone you know who is thinking about establishing a social enterprise.  Bice demonstrates all that is possible when one has true belief in the cause.  Enjoy.

Business Financing Expert

For many of us, trying to organically grow our businesses via retained profits and cashflow is almost impossible to do – or at least it slows the pace of our desired business growth.

Around the world, as economies continue to recover from the global financial crisis, business growth is a reality for many businesses, which is really exciting. The question is: “How do we access external funding to support the business growth?”

We’ve all heard the stories about how banks don’t want to lend to small businesses…. those stories are enough to put anyone off from having a go at getting bank or alternative debt finance, as the process and hoops we have to jump seem way too hard.

Meet my friend Rob Warlow. He’s a business financing expert. He’s helped loads of businesses access the finance they need to support the growth in their businesses.

In our interview, Rob talks about the ‘dos and don’ts’ when a business owner wants to access external financing. The things we talk about are universal… so regardless of where your business is located, listen to what Rob has to say.

I promise you, Rob’s tips will save you a lot of time, energy, hassle and heartache when it’s right for your business to seek the business loan you need to achieve the business growth and success you deserve.

Oh and by the way, in case you are wondering, Rob has come in from the ‘dark side’. He worked in senior banking roles for many years, so he knows their mindset and ‘modus operandi’… therefore he’s really well placed as an independent adviser to offer you some really useful advice. And the great thing is it’s here for free in this interview. Enjoy.

Successful Entrepreneurs’ Stories : Meet Zach Falconer-Barfield

Zach Falconer-Barfield
The 1st Gentleman of The Perfect Gentleman

You’re probably asking what on earth the 1st Gentleman of The Perfect Gentleman is.  I certainly was.

Well meet my new friend, Zacchary Falconer-Barfield.  He’s the 1st Gentleman.  He’s also a serial entrepreneur, author, speaker, teacher and a lovely, fun guy!

In all seriousness, Zach and his partners founded a business called The Perfect Gentleman.  Listen to the audio interview we did recently to learn what it’s all about…. and in case you are wondering, no this isn’t a joke.  🙂  It’s serious business that sees Zach and his team travelling the world educating their clients in their niche market that is growing fast.

In our interview, Zach also shared his experience and wisdom on entrepreneurship.  He’s been in business since he was a young teenager, and in a multitude of industries.  One of his early business issues was that he didn’t look old enough to be in business, so he partnered with his granddad in order to build one of his first enterprises.  Don’t you think that’s very sweet?  I do.  🙂

And has it all been ‘plain sailing?’  Heck, no.  Like everyone, Zach has had his share of business challenges, yet resilience, determination, hard work and being a nice guy helped him through the tough times.

I’m sure you’ll be inspired by Zach’s entrepreneurial journey… and you’ll have a lot of fun learning what it means to be a Perfect Gentleman… or Gentlewoman. Enjoy.
